Rebecca Berger was a student at Stevenson High School when on June 2, 2000, the last day of her Sophomore year, she died of a sudden asthma attack. On that day, she had been selected for Patriot Singers, and was celebrating with others who had also been selected, when she had the fatal attack.
While she was at Stevenson she was a charter member of Syncopation, performed in Madrigal Singers, participated as a cast member in to musical theater productions, was selected for District 7 Jazz Choir, and was inducted into the International Thespian Society.
Rebecca is remembered for her love of music, musical theater, and people.
Her love of others was the cornerstone of her values. She did not prejudge people based on looks or status, but was open to everyone and was very dedicated to her friends.
She performed community service projects from an early age, and she cared deeply about people who were in need.
The Rebecca Gayle Berger Memorial Music Fund was established by her family - parents Judy and Rich Berger, and brother Jeremy (Stevenson class of 1999) - in order to perpetuate her memory.
Each year it recognizes and honors two or three deserving seniors devoted to society who are planning to major in Music, Music Education, or Theater; much like Rebecca had planned to do after high school.
As of May 2024, fifty-five (55) students have received scholarships - totaling over $41,000 awarded.

Thank you.
We continue to partner with the Stevenson Foundation to add to the scholarship fund in both monetary donations and in programs that it will sponsor in the future.
Our goal is to offer opportunities to deserving students, such as music mentorship, music lessons or instrument rental, as well as having two (2) $1,000 scholarships annually. We want to raise enough money each year to continue as a self-supporting fund.
Your donations will help keep Rebecca's memory alive as a blessing for others.
